March, 2021 - Update
As the spring and summer seasons approach here are some updates and plans:
1) April Break Tennis Camp
During the week of April 12-16 we will be running an April Break Tennis Camp at Highgate Tennis Club (35 Highgate Dr, Markham). The camp is open to kids ages 5-14 and will run outdoors, weather depending. It will be 2 hours maximum per day, Monday-Friday, between 9am-4pm. Rackets provided if necessary. More details will be posted in the coming weeks.
2) Spring Programs
As of now, the only spring program that will definitely run is Outdoor Tennis at Highgate Tennis Club (35 Highgate Dr, Markham). Lessons have already begun and will continue through the spring, summer, and fall, pending COVID guidelines. For Tennis program, lesson, and summer camp inquiries please contact us.
Spring programs that traditionally run indoors - Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton - will not commence until the beginning of May at the earliest. Outdoor Spring Sports - Soccer, Baseball - will not begin until the end of May pending COVID guidelines.
If indoor activities are limited or prohibited in the spring and summer, our hope is to run what we can outdoors. In addition to Tennis, this may include outdoor programs in Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Baseball. Stay tuned for more details.
3) Summer Camps
Summer Camps are currently planned for July and August, 2021. Hopefully we'll have a better idea by April or May if they can run and what the schedule would look like. Similar to the spring programs, if indoor summer camps are limited or prohibited, our hope is to run what we can outdoors.
October 6th, 2020 - Update
It was announced this week that all gym permits at York Region schools will be suspended until February 1st, 2021. All Markham Youth Sports fall/winter indoor programs will remain on hold for the season. Stay tuned for more updates.
May 15th - Phase 1 reopens - Tennis
The government recently announced their plans for Phase 1 reopening. Included in the list are individual outdoor sports where physical distancing is possible with the appropriate measures. Tennis is among these sports permitted to begin at community clubs starting May 19th.
Markham Youth Sports will again be partnering with Highgate Tennis Club to deliver our Tennis programming. Highgate TC is located in Markham around Birchmount and Denison
Our lessons will be open to people of all ages, including kids as young as 5, teens, and adults. We are able to coach and train all levels from complete beginner to advanced. Whether you have played tennis or not, this is a great opportunity to be active, learn, and have some fun outside! The lessons will of course come with a set of guidelines and restrictions which will be followed through the duration of Phase 1 and for the foreseeable future:
Guidelines & Restrictions
-maximum 1 coach and 1 household per tennis court
-maximum 4 students per lesson and all must be from the same household
-lessons with more than 1 student can be a mix of ages
-levels can range from complete beginner to advanced
-open to kids, teens and adults (ages 5+)
-rackets provided by us if needed
For more information including cost, booking times, and a complete list of Guidelines & Restrictions please contact us.
Statement on COVID-19 - May 1st 2020
As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve day-to-day, the primary focus of Markham Youth Sports is the safety of our athletes, coaches, staff and families. It was announced this week that Ontario schools will remain closed at least until the beginning of June. Because of this, all Winter and Spring programs will be cancelled. Participants have been contacted and will either be credited or refunded for the missed classes. Details for our upcoming Summer Programs and Summer Camps will remain online.
We are hoping to start up again soon, however we will follow the guidelines set out for us by the government and school board. Once the current measures are slowly relaxed, we anticipate certain sports and activities will be permitted before others. We are keeping an eye out as plans are announced and will provide updates once we have more information.
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us.
